Meet Lisa

lisa_sideLisa Musician is a Registered and Licensed Dietitian from Pennsylvania, residing in Florida with expertise in the area of food allergies.  She is Founder and President of Food Allergy Dietitian, Inc. bringing together professional and personal experience in helping you maintain a healthy and balanced diet while avoiding the food allergen and potential life-threatening reaction.

Lisa has over 17 years of work experience with board certified allergists and a lifetime of personal experience in the world of food allergies.  She completed her undergraduate studies at Cedar Crest College and internship at the University of Delaware.  She is a member of several national and state organizations and holds several certifications of training as a Food Allergy Specialist. She speaks professionally to organizations, schools and support groups about the management of food allergies and increasing optimal health.   She is the author of Parenting a Positive Reaction– A parent’s guide to help promote safe at school for your food allergy child.  Lisa is the mother of two adult children with multiple food allergies and a history of anaphylaxis which inspired her to learn and understand the management of food allergies.

Having food allergies herself, she felt capable of the challenge raising children with food allergies. However, she was concerned on how to feed her children safely at each meal, not only at home but to dine out, as well.  This inspired her to learn and understand as much as possible about how to cook and feed her children without causing a life-threatening reaction.  She returned to college and received a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition from Cedar Crest College when her second child was diagnosed with multiple food allergies.  While earning her degree and during her internship at the University of Delaware she began working part-time for a board certified allergist where she focused on food allergies.  She has a great wealth of knowledge and understanding for the diagnostic aspect including testing and food challenges.

Just as there are doctors who have specialties, there are dietitians who specialize in certain areas of nutrition.

Those who are experts in the food allergy field have studied and worked with allergists or primary care physicians who focus on nutrition and food allergy.

When choosing a dietitian for managing food allergies consider the following:

• In addition to education, does the dietitian understand the diagnostic aspect of food allergy, including testing and food challenges?

• Ask how the dietitian gained experience in the field of food allergy beyond the bachelor’s degree and internship?

• Has the dietitian worked with food allergy patients as the primary focus in the work field?

If the dietitian does not have food allergy experience, then find one who does.

ELL, Inc. a national not-for-profit 501 (c)(3) organization advocates for more complete and accurate allergen ingredient food labeling and manages a nationwide program of training services on food allergy safety to schools, camps, daycare facilities and home environments.

Lisa received certification of training in Food Allergies from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics formerly American Dietetics Association; the world’s largest organization of food and nutritional professionals which she is a member.

Served on her local School Health Council Committee and Wellness Policy Board advocating the state policy on wellness and food allergy guidelines in the district, and received awards for Volunteer work for Asthma Camp Experience (ACE) by the American Lung Association. Presented at the Food Allergy Bloggers Conference and numerous groups of healthcare professionals.  She has been interviewed and recognized as a food allergy expert for many organizations and magazines.

Her life experience, knowledge and professional training have redirected her to provide food allergy support through education and to develop communication skills which is crucial to managing food allergies.
